Half Day Canadian Tour

On D-day, Tuesday June the 6th 1944, 21 500 Canadian troops landed on what is known today as Juno Beach as part of the Allied Operation Overlord to liberate Western Europe. Overlooking Juno Beach today is the Juno Beach Center, the first stop of the day and a must see for any Canadian visitor to the region. It is the only museum in Normandy dedicated specifically to the Canadian war effort. The center recounts the history of Canada immediately before, during and after in its involvement in World War II. The 2nd stop of this tour is the Canadian Military Cemetery between the villages of Bény-sur-Mer and Reviers. The cemetery is managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is the final resting place of 2 048 Canadian servicemen who lost their lives on D-day or during the battle of Normandy. From there the tour makes its way through some of the villages liberated by Canadian forces to the Abbaye d’Ardennes. This former abbey was a German HQ during the D-day invasion and was the scene of an infamous massacre perpetrated by the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend against Canadian forces.
