Utah & Omaha Beaches Full Day Tour
The 6th of June 1944, a day that changed the history of the world. On this date at 6.30 am American troops landed on Utah and Omaha beaches as part of Operation Neptune, step one in the allied effort to liberate Europe from Nazi occupation. The first part of this operation involved the U.S 82nd Airborne Division taking control of the strategic town of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, the first stop of this tour. From there the tour continues to Utah Beach where 23 500 American soldiers lander on D-day. After a stop for lunch the first stop in the afternoon is La Pointe du Hoc, where members of the 2nd Battalion of the United States Rangers succeed, despite the odds being stacked against them in taking control of a major German artillery position. The second stop of the afternoon is Omaha Beach, the bloodiest of the five allied landing beaches, where the 1st and 29th divisions of the American Army disembarked. The tour finishes at United States Military Cemetery in Collville-sur-Mer, the final resting place of 9 387 American servicemen.
